Green and Lean

Green Shakes and Smoothies...

Now myself personally I love a shake or a smoothie, a great way to get some goodness into your diet with absolute ease.

All you need is some good ingredients and a blender which you can pic up for around £20-50.

Today I will cover 'Green' Smoothies..

Incorporating Green Smoothies in your diet is an easy, delicious way to boost up your health and a great way to stay fueled through out the day. Green smoothies are known to resolve a lot of digestive problems and are high in fiber. And with a proper diet, can help you stay lean.

Green Smoothies are generally a mix of 60% ripe fruit and 40% organic greens e.g. Spinach.

Below is a couple of great recipes to get you started;

Green Monster Smoothie

Makes 2-3 servings

Ingredients:

  • 1 banana (frozen or not), cut into chunks
  • 1 cup chopped frozen pineapple
  • 1 pear, coarsely chopped
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 3 cups baby spinach leaves, rinsed and dried
  • 1 tbsp. honey
  • 3 tbsp. ground flaxseed (optional)

Directions:

  1. Combine all ingredients in a blender or food processor and puree until completely smooth. If smoothie is too thick, thin it out with a little more orange juice.
  2. Taste and adjust sweetness with additional honey, if desired. Serve immediately.

  1. Could a green smoothie (for example the Green Monster) replace breakfast? Does it have enough nutritional value?

    Thanks :)
